Children’s Ministries

Children’s Ministry continues to be a priority at Cogdell UMC. This year a Children’s Council has been formed to better serve the children and families. The Council is made of of Cogdell staff and volunteers who have expressed interest in growing and improving the program already in place. Belinda Rubio, former Waco ISD principal, facilitates the group. They have been meeting regularly and as a result many new ideas are being tossed around and new activities and programs have either already been implemented or are in the works.

Children’s Sunday School classes meet every Sunday at 10:00. Currently the children are divided into three groups, the PreK/Kindergarten Group, the Primary Group, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders and the Youth Group who has graciously opened itself to include upper elementary. Classes are taught by a teacher and an assistant. These individuals commit to teach for a calendar month and rotate in and out of the classes on a monthly basis. This provides more consistency for the groups and allows more adults to interact with the young people at Cogdell. Come join the fun, volunteers are always needed to do this important work.

Vacation Bible School is being offered to ALL children in the community this summer. It will be held Sunday, July 17-Thursday, July 24, 6:00-8:30. A meal and a snack will be provided to all children. The theme this year is “Shake It Up Café: Where Kids Carry Out God’s Recipe”. Everyone is welcome, so please come join the fun and bring family or neighborhood kids. It promises to be a good time for all.

In addition, special activities and celebrations are planned for children throughout the year. Holidays, such as Easter and Christmas provide opportunities to teach the children at Cogdell about God, His word, and the importance of giving.

Yes, the Children’s Ministry at Cogdell UMC is alive and well. The firm foundation laid by many in past years has become a springboard for the newly formed Children’s Council. New and exciting ideas are being formulated and good things will continue to emerge for the children of Cogdell UMC.
