May 7, 2008
I have been “cooped up” in my office for much of yesterday and
today, the misty and gray skies outside my window, matching
the blue of my office walls. My “joy level” was a little low—Frankly, I made
myself begin studying for Sunday’s sermon. The first lectionary
text for May 11 that I read was Psalm 104.
What a wildly wonderful world, God!
You made it all, with Wisdom at your side,
made earth overflow with your wonderful creations.
Oh, look—the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past
counting, sardines and sharks and salmon.
Ships plow those waters,
and Leviathan, your pet dragon, romps in them.
All the creatures look expectantly to you
to give them their meals on time.
You come, and they gather around;
you open your hand and they eat from it.
If you turned your back, they’d die in a minute—
Take back your Spirit and they die, revert to original mud;
Send out your Spirit
and they spring to life—
the whole countryside in bloom and blossom.
Oh, let me sing to God all my life long,
sing hymns to my God as long as I live!
O my soul, bless God!
The next time you are feeling low—
you don’t have to book a cruise—or spend a week at the beach—
or even pray for a sunny day—
The joy of God’s creation can be found within the pages of your Bible—the majesty of
God’s power and providence and protection is available at your fingertips—
Just open your Bible and be surrounded by God’s Word and World.
In God’s Steadfast Love…Kay
